April 13, 2016 Wednesday Night Taste

Join us Wednesday evening for a taste from around the world. We are starting the journey in Oregon with a crisp and clean Pinot Gris King Estate Winery. Then we bounce to an easy drinking but satisfying garnacha from Spain. The next two wines are from south of the equator, Australia and Argentina before we end the journey in Italy. Stop in for a taste or two. Next week, Tuesday, April 19, we will have the National Sales Representative from Don Sebastiani and Van Guard Wines tasting Simple Life Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Sivas Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon and Old Vine Zinfandel and Custard Chardonnay from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. This special tasting is only $13.75 per person including paired wines. Reserve your spot today by calling 937-224-9463.

Featured wines for this week:

2011 King Estate Domaine Oregon Pinot Gris, Eugene, Oregon

Aromas of pear, cantaloupe, lime zest, tropical fruit and spice. Flavors of citrus, mango, pineapple and honey. This wine has great weight and acidity, with a nice balance of acid and sugar, and a long crisp finish with minerality. 100% steel tank fermented and aged for 11 months on the lees.

2012 Artazuri Garnacha, Navarra, Spain

Earthy aromas matched by bright blueberry fruit. Lovely ripe strawberry flavors – bright, crunchy palate with vivid acidity and great aromatic definition. A spicy finish with a touch of warmth.

2004 Pretty Sally Estate Shiraz, Victoria, Australia

An elegant, concentrated Shiraz full of aromas and flavors of fresh blackberry and raspberry with notes of cassis, candied cherry, and licorice. Has subtle notes of pepper which is characteristic of this region. The strong finish has lingering flavors of dark fruit liqueur.

2008 Benegas Estate Finca Libertad, Mendoza, Argentina

An aggressive, forceful blend of one-third each Cabernet Sauvignon, Cab Franc and Merlot that’s scratchy and a bit green on the nose, but also very dark and heavy with berry aromas. Feels raw and tannic, with extracted flavors of baked berry and herbs.

2012 Podere Sapio Volpolo, Bolgheri, Italy

An enticing combination of black currant, black cherry, violet, cedar and cigar box flavors highlight this intense, structured red, which needs some time to resolve the tannins, but this shows ample fruit and balance. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. WS. 93pts. Top 100 for 2015.
