Join us this evening for a great wine tasting. I know I say the wines are great every week but tonight we will be pouring a few superb wines, ie, Mount Hermon Red, Smoke and Mirrors as well as Runquist Syrah. So join me, I’m the host pourer this evening for a great tasting. We will do another brown bag next week! And did I mention only $10.75 to try all five wines!Cheers
2012 Green Eyes ‘Love over Money’ Gruner Veltliner, Niederosterreich, Austria
Fruity aromas with floral notes and hints of herbal scents while the palate is crisp acidity, rich fruits, citrus and gooseberry with subtle hints of spiciness.
2013 Golan Heights Winery, Hermon, Mount Hermon Red, Galilee, Israel
Produced from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with a small amount of Cabernet Franc, all grown in the Golan Heights. The cool climate, rocky volcanic soil, and high altitude are ideal conditions for growing classic wine grape varieties. Moderately early pressing yields a wine with good color and ample fruit that can be enjoyed without extensive aging. Cherry, plum and spice notes, alongside hints of fresh herb and black pepper. 2012 JC Cellars ‘Smoke and Mirrors’ red blend, California
Refreshingly quirky, this offers ripe cherry and spicy nut bread aromas, leading to zesty dried blackberry, cracked pepper and licorice flavors that linger toward ripe tannins. Zinfandel, Syrah, Grenache, Alicante Bouschet, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Mourvèdre. 91 pts Wine Spectator
2011 Cross Springs Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Lake County, California
Aromas of black cherry, currants and rich vanilla accent the flavors of ripe cherry, creamy vanilla and subtle hints of oaks. Supple, soft tannins with a well balanced finish.
2012 Runquist Syrah (Shiraz Style), Paso Robles, California
Purple color of medium to full depth accompanied by youthful garnet hues. Plums, red currants and black cherry scents identify this wine as a ‘New World’ Syrah. Aging in barrels toasted over a hickory generated flame provide the bouquet with a unique smoky nuance, and the sweet oak lactones that are incorporated into the wine during aging give this wine a significant note of caramel as well. Succulent juicy flavors of red and black fruits flow to mid-palate flavors of chalk (just enough to suggest Syrah) and toasted oak. There is enough tannin present to provide the wine with a rich full texture and remain soft and supple which makes for a long satisfying finish. Jeff Runquist
