WEDENESDAY NIGHT TASTE, JANUARY 15, 2014

2011 Faust Cabernet Sauvignon

2011 Faust Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, CA.

What a line up for this evenings wine taste. Five great value wines for only $12.75 Starting off with a nice slightly oaked unfiltered chardonnay to some mild easy drinking pinot noir and gamay to a full bodied, rich, big California Cabernet Sauvignon. Tonight’s taste starts at 5:30pm.

2008 Saintsbury unfiltered Chardonnay, Carnesos, California

There’s a bit of oak here, but not too much, giving a smoky, buttered toast richness to the orange, lime and pineapple fruit. It’s a rich, flashy Chardonnay, with crisp acidity and a clean, spicy finish.

2010 J Lohr Falcon’s Perch Pinot Noir, Monterey County, California

Garnet color, and is adorned with aromas of red fruit, lilac, rose petal, vanilla and notes of sage and thyme. Tar, beeswax and oak frame the complex varietal character unique to Pinot Noir. Soft tannins on the palate give way to the fine, talcy finish on this very food friendly wine.

2011 Chateau de Raousset Coteaux Bourguignons, ACBC, France

100% Gamay. The count of Raousset was first rewarded by Napolean III for the quality of his wines. Winning medals in 1861 and 1869 (gold medal of the universal explosion), it is now Remy Passot who, following four generations wine growers, is in charge of the estate’s grapevines with great respect for the land’s three different designations – Chiroubles, Fleurie and Morgon. This Burgundy is a combination of subtleties with unique red berries aromas.

2009 Chateau Du Mont Carlau Bordeaux, ABC, France

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Ripe fruity nose, concentrated fruit, full bodied, rich and fleshy with a lot of charm. Nice easy drink for the value.

2011 Faust Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, California

Bold and powerful, yet elegant and concentrated. Dense and inky, the core is a beautiful, rich ruby color. The aromas lift out of the glass with blackberry, black cherry, ripe raspberry and tea leaf. The entry is impressive with a fleshy mouthfeel and notes of cassis, dark chocolate and ripe berries. The layers continue to unfold throughout a long finish.
