Stop in this evening for a great Italian tasting, Soave, Orvieto and Primitivo just to start the evening. Pair these wines with a nice summer dinner of baked vegetable, chicken thigh and leg over wild rice.
NV Foss Marai Brut Prosecco, DOC, Treviso, Italy
Foss Marai offers a spumante wine with an attractive aroma of unripe fruits and acacia flowers, characteristic of Prosecco grapes. It has a balanced flavor, in which acidity and residual sugar blend to create a pleasant ensemble.
2012 Canaletto Soave, DOC, Veneto, Italy
Canaletto Soave comes from Veneto, north-eastern Italy. The vineyards are situated just outside Verona, where cool currents help the grapes to retain their aromatic character. The vines are trained using both the Guyot method and the ‘pergola Veronese’ on hills characterized by a soil of volcanic origins.
2013 Canaletto Orvieto Classico, DOC, Umbria, Italy
Traditional Orvieto DOC whites may contain Grechetto, Trebbiano, Verdelho, Canaiolo Bianco and/or Malvasia Bianca
A lovely golden color, offering a fresh, fruity nose. Clean and full of citrus and fruity flavors, with a pleasant nuttiness on the palate and a very crisp finish.
2011 Canaletto Primitivo, IGT, Puglia, Italy
This wine is made in Salento in the region of Puglia, one of Italy’s most southerly wine-producing regions. Puglians believe the name “Primitivo” (meaning “first”) comes from the fact that Primitivo grapes are the first to be picked as they reach optimum ripeness at the end of August. Canaletto Primitivo has an intense bouquet of ripe dark berry fruits, with blackcurrants, blackberries and black cherries bursting through on the palate. Well balanced, rich, smooth and round, this wine is ideal with meat, game or pasta dishes.
2010 Basilica Caffaggio Single Estate Vendemmia Chianti Classico, Panzano, Italy
A deliciously concentrated example of Chianti. Dark ruby color and rich notes of black cherry, fruitcake and plum on the palate. 100% Sangiovese aged on Slovenian oak casks for 12 months.
2009 Villa Cafaggio Riserva Chianti Classico, DOCG, Panzano, Italy
The Sangiovese Toscano grapes for the Riserva are grown exclusively on the south facing slopes of the Villa Cafaggio estate. The Chianti Classico Riserva has an intense ruby red color. The bouquet is dominated by mature fruity notes, reminiscent of black bilberries. It has a full, concentrated and intense flavor. On the palate there is a very pleasant flavor of mature cherries, which lingers for a long time, with sweet tannins that blend in perfectly with the structure of the wine.
