Mount Etna

This weeks mid week tasting is featuring some great wines from around the world. From the Mount Etna region of Sicily, Passopisciaro is a not to miss wine. Mount Etna had two lighter years ‘09 and ‘010, that produced some fine and elegant wines, able to represent the gentle sophistication that grapes growing on the north side of the mountain can transmit to wine. Made from 100% Nerello Mascalese, this wine vibrant lush wine that may be cellared for years to come or consumed now.

2011 Sorter Vineyards, North Valley Chardonnay, Willamette Valley, Oregon

Exotic aromas of lime zest, fresh tropical fruits and honey dominate with subtle notes of toast and vanilla bean just under the surface. Citrus and fresh apple linger with a wisp of toast and honey on the dry, pure mouthwatering finish.

2009 Passopisiaro Rosso Sicilia, IGT, Castiglione Di Sicilia, Italy

Deceptively mid-weight, but behind the light color and seeming fleeting structure lies a deeply expressive core of perfumed red berries, crushed rocks, flowers and mint. A burst of deep salinity frames the bracing finish. Quite simply, this is a stunning wine.
