Spring is near! Let’s celebrate the warmer weather this week with a great Wednesday night wine tasting featuring some great and unique wines.
2011 Carol Shelton Coquille Blanc, Paso Robles, California
Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Viognier and Marsanne
Exotic nose of spicy pears and white peaches, almond paste/marzipan, a touch of honeysuckle perfume. Multi-dimensional (many layers), a hard-to-describe range of aromatics, intriguing, almost mysterious! In the mouth it is crisply dry yet creamy and round and full-bodied, nice almond paste on crisp-yet-juicy pear fruit. ~winemakers notes.
2012 Runquist Dolcetto, Block House Vineyards, Napa Valley, California
Garnet color of medium depth with youthful hues. The aroma is a full of red currants and plums with a flinty, dusty mineral edge. We bottle the Dolcetto just before the next harvest so the wine ages for less than a year in small barrels. As a result the bouquet is subtle and contributes mild notes of cinnamon. On the palate flavors of cherry, currant and raspberry, delivered by a softly textured wine, melts to a smooth finish with a mildly chalky edge. ~Jeff Runquist
2012 Lamadrid Single Vineyard Malbec, Agrelo, Argentina
A fruit bomb, with juicy layers of black cherry puree, crushed plum and blackberry set on a fresh, easy-drinking frame that adds light spice and sandalwood notes to the finish
2012 Lamadrid Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Agrelo, Argentina
Perfumed, ripe aromas of redcurrant, tobacco leaf, graphite and beefsteak tomato. Sweet, supple and lush, with moderate complexity and no rough edges. Finishes with soft tannins
2011 Durigutti Cabernet Franc, Mendoza, Argentina
Bright red-ruby. Redcurrant, nutty oak, licorice and fresh herbs on the nose. Supple and seamless in the mouth, with a touch of minerality giving shape and lift to the black fruit and leather flavors. Nicely harmonious wine with lush, spreading tannins and very good length.
